Wedding/Celebration Stole

Here is one of my original designs that I created for Easter and weddings, but would be a beautiful stole for any special event.  The background is a really high quality dupioni silk, and is heavily beaded with glass seed beads, pearl beads, crystals and tonal beads, sewn with silver thread.... It took a significant amount of time to execute, but it is one of my favorite designs because of it's subtle sparkle and reflection.  The upper portion has only a few crystals intertwined with the pearls and glass, so not to distract from the message, but it is nothing if not elegant.  The photo does not do it justice.

You may contact me and I will make one upon request.  I would need about 6-8 weeks lead time due to the amount of hand beading.

Yearning for Spring

I saw a beautiful photo of strawberries tonight that made me yearn for the coming season of deliciousness!  :)

Here is a taste of spring that I created for someone (stitching freehand, without a plan) who likes blues, greens and purples.... it is quite small, with the frame measuring about 3 x 4 inches.

Happy Valentines Day

Tonight was going to be the night that I completed the anniversary gift for M and T, but I decided to watch Tom Ford's 'A Single Man', with Colin Firth...and simply couldn't pull my eyes away...so no sewing.  What an astounding movie.  It now joins the list of my favorites.....beautiful for so many reasons.  A good choice for V Day.

In the spirit of the day I am sharing with you what I made my parents for Christmas this past year.  Mom had some truly beautiful linen from her wedding gifts that were in perfect condition (Mom and Dad have been married for over 50 years), and she gave me a sample to work with.  I decided to make sachets for my family, and for Mom and Dad I wanted something that represented what our family is all about.  After sketching symbols, etc, etc....I finally landed on all of our names, for a clean look and chose the heart for glaringly obvious reasons.  :)

I filled the sachet with lavender...the size of this thing is quite large, measuring about 6x9 inches.

If I did this design again, I would bring it up on the bag.  I feel that it is sitting too low, as the lavender bulk weighs it down, but live and learn!!  Right??

Moving along with shantung silk

This fabric is simply shredding on the edges as I work it.....but I am enjoying the results.  Here is an early photo after I applied the design and began work on the date.....single thread for the itsy bitsy stitches that take forever...but with happy results!

Inspiration

Love this soft blue haze of shantung silk....I am thinking of taking the ivory toned threads and making an anniversary gift for friends who have moved out to Oregon...and who are dearly missed!  The fabric is so beautiful and would make an exquisite ballgown......

My Work Basket - A Stole for Ordinary Time

I am currently working on a stole for ordinary time.  A really lovely St. Thomas cross design, that I have cut from a  mellow buttery-gold dupioni silk placing onto a dense backing of green cotton that has a nice depth to it....subtle visual movement in the weave.  The cross is hand applied and hand embroidered in fine stitches and I added glass seed beads in the same golden yellow as accents.  I hope to have it on my etsy site soon!  etsy.com/shop/MontreatDesigns
